Dear friends,

I have been the recipient of many deliberate acts of kindness in the last month. The Tanzanians I live and work with can’t reciprocate when I buy food, water or a tank of gas. But they still show me, in many ways, how much I am cared about. Here is one example:

11/9/11 - UNO

By: Ann

Dear Friends,

When I arrived at Amka Afrika School on my first visit, I brought along a deck of UNO cards. During a break in their studies, I showed the older kids how to play. They picked it up immediately and became fanatical about the game. I taught the boys first, but the girls soon wanted to play too, so the deck was split, one half to the boys, one half to the girls. They played at every opportunity: inside, outside, during lunch break. They never forgot to yell, “UNO,” when they got down to one card, only they pronounced it, “You-no.”
